Bangladesh | Ferry Boat Collission with A ship leaves at least 16 Dead many missing

  At least 16 people including a baby are confirmed dead and rescuers are still searching for missing passengers after a ferry carrying almost 100 people collided with a cargo ship and sank in a Bangladesh river, officials said.  Rescue workers had recovered 16 bodies including an infant and two women, local administrator Rashida Ferdous told the AFP news agency, refuse to confirm the exact numbers of passengers.   The low-lying country, which has extensive inland waterways and a poor safety record, suffers regular ferry disasters, often with significant loss of life. A similar kind of accident on February 13, killed at least seven passengers in southern Bangladesh. Bangladeshi ferries do not normally keep passenger lists, making it difficult to establish how many are missing after an accident.


Update: 24/2/2015: The Bangladesh government has ordered an investigation a day after a passenger ferry collided with a cargo ship in the Padma river, northwest of the capital Dhaka, killing at least 70 people. Speaking at the scene in Manikganj, Shajahan Khan, the shipping minister, said on Monday that an investigation had been launched into the sinking of the twin-deck MV Mostofa, which was carrying at least 140 people.
