Big Blow to Apple as Cupertino Company has been ordered to pay $533.9 M for Patent Infringement
Apple Store, New York, United States

A Federal  Jury in Texas has order Apple Inc to pay hefty amount of $533.9 Million to Patent licensing firm Smartflash LLC for patent infringement in Apple iTunes.

According to verdict, Smartflash LLC is the owner of three patents, which relates to Apple iTunes and accessing & storing downloaded songs, videos and games through iTunes software.

Though Smartflash had been asking for $852 million in damages in its appeal in 2013  from Apple Inc. Tuesday night’s verdict against Apple is still a big blow. The Jury after eight hours of deliberating come to conclusion that Apple willfully infringed with the patents rights of the Smartflash without premission.

According to Reuters: Apple said in a statement ,“We refused to pay off this company for the ideas our employees spent years innovating and unfortunately we have been left with no choice but to take this fight up through the court system,” Apple said it would appeal,  said that this outcome is  another reason, reform was needed in the patent system to curb litigation by companies that don’t make products themselves.
